The Council of the European Union excluded State Duma deputy Nikolai Petrunin, editor-in-chief of Komsomolskaya Pravda Nikolai Sungorkin and deputy governor of the Kherson region Kirill Stremousov from the sanctions list of the dead. This follows from the decision, which is published in the "Official Journal of the European Union".
On March 13, the EU Council for six months, until September 15, also extended individual sanctions imposed on 1,473 individuals and 205 legal entities "for undermining the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine."
Deputy head of the Kherson regional administration Kirill Stremousov died in a car accident last November at the age of 45. The first deputy chairman of the State Duma Committee on Energy, a United Russia deputy from the Tula region, Nikolai Petrunin, died at the age of 47 in October after a serious illness, the press service of the State Duma reported. The editor-in-chief of Komsomolskaya Pravda, Vladimir Sungorkin, died at the age of 69 due to a stroke in September.
Sanctions for "undermining or threatening the territorial integrity, sovereignty and independence of Ukraine" were imposed on Russian citizens in March 2014, when Crimea became part of Russia following a referendum. The European Union began to expand them after the start of military operations in Ukraine last year.
