Foreign Ministry Announces Response to "Unprecedented" US and EU Sanctions

The Russian government is working on a response to unprecedented and illegitimate sanctions from the United States and the European Union, said Alexei Paramonov, DIRECTOR of the first European department of the Russian Foreign Ministry, RIA Novosti reports.

“The issue of restrictive measures in response to the unprecedented scale and illegitimate from the point of view of international law sanctions pressure on RUSSIA by the US and the EU is being worked out by the government of the Russian Federation,” Paramonov said.

The United States and European countries have imposed several packages of sanctions after Russia launched a military operation in Ukraine. Sberbank, VTB and a number of other Russian banks fell under the restrictions. Washington also tightened restrictions on the EXPORT of microelectronics to Russia, banned transactions with the Central Bank, the FNB and the Ministry of Finance, imposed an embargo on Russian oil and banned the export of luxury goods to Russia.

Sanctions were also imposed against President Vladimir Putin, Foreign and Defense Ministers Sergei Lavrov and Sergei Shoigu. In response, Moscow imposed sanctions on US President Joe Biden, Secretary of State Anthony Blinken, White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki, former US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and others.
