A court in Tehran ordered the confiscation of cargo from a tanker seized by Iran in April last year following a claim by epidermolysis bullosa patients, Tasnim reports.
Epidermolysis bullosa is a rare hereditary skin disease in which the skin is highly vulnerable to any impact: friction or blows to it cause blisters, ulcers, etc. In some cases, the disease can affect internal organs. Due to the vulnerability of the skin, such patients are called “butterfly people.”
Patients with this disease have appealed to the Court of International Relations in the Iranian capital with a claim against the United States due to sanctions that blocked the EXPORT to Iran of medicines for patients with epidermolysis bullosa - special bandages and drugs from Sweden.
The court issued a warrant for the confiscation of oil that the tanker Advantage Sweet was transporting to the United States, and he was arrested by court decision. The ship was detained in April last year in the Gulf of Oman, BLOOMBERG reports .
The agency said the ship was flying the flag of the Marshall Islands. Turkish operator Advantage Tankers said it was carrying Kuwaiti crude and had a crew of 24 Indians. The ship was sailing to the United States, Texas, and was chartered by Chevron. At the same time, the owner of the tanker is SPDB Financial Leasing, a structure of the Chinese Shanghai Pudong Development Bank.
Al Jazeera reported that the tanker collided with an Iranian ship, several members of the ship's crew fell overboard and disappeared, and others were injured. The tanker fled the scene and ignored radio signals to stop, and was eventually captured by the Iranian Navy. The soldiers disembarked from a helicopter.
