Italian Foreign Minister Luigi Di Maio warned of the danger of a "food war" with unforeseen consequences if problems with the supply of Ukrainian grain persist. He stated this in an interview with La Stampa newspaper.

“All expert assessments indicate that the only way to overcome the grain shortage depends on the creation of protected corridors for the transport of wheat by sea from Ukraine. Land routes are too difficult <…>. There is a threat not of a simple food crisis, but of a real food war with unforeseen consequences,” he said.

The Italian diplomat called on the Russian authorities to cooperate in creating a corridor on the Black Sea to ensure the supply of grain.
