The frigate "Standart" will not be allowed into the French port due to EU sanctions

The captain previously announced that the frigate intends to take part in the maritime festival in Normandy. At the end of July, the ship was not allowed into European ports, but in the end it was allowed to enter the port of Spain Frigate "Standart"

The Russian sailing frigate "Standard" will not be able to enter the port of Granville in western Normandy due to EU sanctions , the press service of the prefecture of the Manche department told RIA Novosti. It also cannot call at any other European port.

“According to European decisions, the Shtandart cannot enter European ports,” they answered the question whether the frigate could moor at the port of Granville.

RBC sent a request to the Manche department and asked the captain of the frigate "Standard" Vladimir Martus for comment.

Martus previously reported that the frigate intends to take part in the maritime festival “Working Sails” (Voiles de travail), which will be held on August 21–25 in the commune of Granville in Normandy. According to the captain, the Russian frigate, which has participated in it before, should become one of the main exhibits. The issue of applying European sanctions is under the jurisdiction of the prefect, Martus emphasized.

The prefecture of the French department of Finistère banned the frigate from entering ports after wording was added to the anti-Russian sanctions about “copies of historical ships,” which the frigate is. The ship was prevented from participating in the sailing ship festival in Brest and was not allowed to enter the port for supplies. The team appealed the prefect's decision to the French Supreme Court, but the case will take at least four months.

Since April 2022, the entry of ships flying the Russian flag into EU ports has been prohibited, but the Shtandart now sails under the flag of the Cook Islands. The ship arrived in the EU to participate in the festival, but on July 23 it was not allowed into French ports, and the next day into Spanish ones. By the end of July, the crew began to run out of provisions, as a result, Spain allowed the Russian frigate to enter the port.

The frigate "Standart" is an exact copy of a warship that was built by Tsar Peter I in 1703 for the defense of St. Petersburg. The modern version was built in 1999 as a training sailboat. He repeatedly participated in maritime festivals in European ports.
