WHO predicted the end of the COVID pandemic in 2023 and called it "lessons"

The CORONAVIRUS pandemic will end "at some point" in 2023, but countries around the world should remember three lessons from what happened, the WHO chief urged: the importance of science, cooperation and public HEALTH

The world is now in a much better position than at any time during the spread of covid-19 , for the first time the weekly number of reported deaths from this infection is lower than at the beginning of 2020, when the World Organization first recognized what was happening as a pandemic. This was stated by the HEAD of the organization, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, when he was awarded the Thomas Francis Jr. medal for his contribution to health care.

“I am sure that at some point this year we will be able to say that COVID-19 has ended as a public health emergency of international concern and as a pandemic,” he said.

The most important thing now is to remember the lessons learned from the coronavirus pandemic, Ghebreyesus warned. If this is not done, states will repeat the cycles of "panic and neglect that have been the hallmark" of the world's response to epidemics. He named three lessons that he considered important for the population of the world.

First, the importance of public health . The head of WHO recalled that some countries with a developed medical system survived the pandemic worse than states with less resources and income. For example, he said, “the simple art of contact tracing” — many rich countries have forgotten how to do it, and poorer parts of the world have retained “muscle memory” due to experience in dealing with outbreaks of infections. “An advanced healthcare system is not the same as a strong public health system,” Ghebreyesus said.

Second, the importance of science . Science has made it possible to rapidly sequence the virus and develop tests, treatments and vaccines faster than for any other pathogen in history, the WHO chief continued. “And yet, in some countries and communities, as well as on social media, the marginalization and politicization of science has hampered the response to the pandemic and has cost lives,” he noted, pointing out that the issues of quarantine, mask wearing and vaccination have been deeply politicized.

Third, the importance of cooperation. According to Ghebreyesus, the countries of the world should have united to jointly respond to the challenges of the coronavirus, but they cooperated poorly. “Instead of a consistent and coherent global response, the pandemic has been marked by a chaotic mix of responses,” he said.

The head of WHO again stressed that all hypotheses about the ways the coronavirus appeared were being considered until the relevant studies were carried out. He lamented that even three years after the start of the pandemic, WHO does not know how to conduct these studies due to the lack of cooperation from CHINA .
