The body of a Canadian who died while on vacation in Cuba was mistakenly sent to RUSSIA, the deceased's daughter told Canadian television channel CTV News.
Farah Jarjour, 68, died on March 22 in the resort town of Varadero in northern Cuba. His body was supposed to be sent to his relatives in the Canadian province of Quebec, but was mistakenly delivered to Russia.
According to the deceased's daughter, Miriam Jarjour, the family received the cargo, but the coffin contained the body of a Russian about 20 years younger than the Canadian citizen.
"We don't know when my father's body will arrive. There was no funeral for my father, so we can't sleep well," Myriam Jarjour told CTV News.
The Cuban government has returned the funds to the Jarjour family that they had donated for the transportation of the body. Canadian Foreign Minister Melanie Joly said on Twitter that Cuba is investigating the incident.
In the fall of 2021, the bodies of pensioners who died from covid-19 were mixed up in the Rtishchevo morgue in the Saratov region . Relatives of one of the women discovered the mistake at the cemetery, where the coffin was opened at their request.
The regional HEALTH ministry apologized to the relatives of the deceased woman. Investigators from the Saratov region conducted an investigation into the incident.
