The decision on the lifespan of the International Space Station (ISS) will depend on the situation in and around Russia, Roscosmos Director General Dmitry Rogozin said in an interview with TASS.
“For the time being, we will not rush to announce our position and will continue to work within the deadline set by the government – until 2024. The decision on the fate of the ISS will largely depend on the situation that will develop both in our country and around it,” Rogozin said.
At the same time, he stressed that if Russia decided to withdraw from the project, he warned the partners about it for a year.
The head of NASA announced the preservation of working relations on the ISS
Now Roscosmos has permission from the government to operate the ISS only until 2024.
In early March, the press service of Roscosmos reported that in connection with the anti-Russian sanctions imposed by the United States and the European Union, which also affected the space industry, there are doubts about Russia's continued participation in the ISS program after 2024.
However, at the end of March, the head of the US National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), Bill Nelson, said that relations between American astronauts and their colleagues from other countries, including Russia, remain working.
