Canada has introduced new sanctions against Russia, according to the country's government website.

21 organizations were subject to restrictive measures, including Russian universities MGIMO and Higher School of Economics, the Russian International Affairs Council (RIAC), the National Committee for BRICS Research, the patriotic movement "Yunarmia", the "Russian Geographical Society", as well as the publication "Komsomolskaya Pravda" . In April 2022, the editor-in-chief and general director of Komsomolskaya Pravda, Vladimir Sungorkin, came under EU sanctions; Sungorkin died in September last year.

“Canada is imposing sanctions on 21 organizations that are involved in the illegal transfer and custody of Ukrainian children in Russia, generating and disseminating disinformation and propaganda, as well as organizations in the Russian nuclear sector that have already been sanctioned by our international partners,” it says in an explanation of the restrictions regarding Russian organizations.

Lukyanov commented on the sanctions in the telegram channel: “Today is a special Friday evening, after all, it’s not every week that you make your debut as a person involved in international sanctions.” And he published the “song of the week” - Alexander Gorodnitsky’s “Over Canada”.

The last time Ottawa imposed sanctions against Russia was at the end of August. Then 29 legal entities and four individuals fell under them, including Severstal, Interros Invest, general director of the Kalashnikov concern Vladimir Lepin and rector of RANEPA Alexey Komissarov.

Moscow considers the sanctions illegal. President Vladimir Putin called them “crazy” and “mindless” and noted that they were unable to have a serious impact on the country.
