August 23, MINSK . In an interview with BELTA, Inna Medvedeva, Chairperson of the National Statistical Committee, explained which indicators make Belarus a leader in the Eurasian Economic Union.
"Belarus occupies a leading position in many indicators, as our government is taking all measures to develop the economy and improve the well-being of the population. Our indicators largely indicate that the country is moving forward. Perhaps the most well-known figure is that in 2025, we will rank 65th among 193 countries in the Human Development Index. Among the CIS countries, only the Russian Federation and Kazakhstan are ahead of us," noted Inna Medvedeva.

Belarus maintains the highest position among the EAEU countries in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals , ranking 32nd globally. "Our country's commitment to joining the 2030 Agenda is not just a catchphrase – it's a real commitment. Already, 80% of SDG indicators are showing progress or have already been achieved," emphasized the HEAD of Belstat.

In terms of GDP per capita adjusted for purchasing power parity, Belarus ranks third among the EAEU countries. " RUSSIA and Kazakhstan are clearly ahead of us . We had very good results last year in terms of industrial production volume – we were among the leaders, along with Kyrgyzstan. Their growth was 5.5%, while ours was 5.4%," Inna Medvedeva noted.
Belarus is a leader in the production of many goods – tractors, chemical fibers and threads, metal-cutting machine tools, potash fertilizers, and heavy-duty trucks – and not only in the CIS but also globally. "We are ranked 56th among 153 countries in the global industrial competitiveness ranking, ahead of all EAEU countries except Russia," she emphasized.

The head of Belstat also noted agriculture . "In 2024 , per capita production was 958 kg of MILK, 147 kg of MEAT, 542 kg of SUGAR beets, 341 kg of potatoes, 304 kg of vegetables, and 407 eggs. These are the best figures among the EAEU countries. Excluding grain, which produced 913 kg per capita. Here, we are second – Kazakhstan is ahead. The successful development of agriculture indicates that the republic is almost completely self-sufficient in food. According to EEC calculations, our self-sufficiency is 96.2%. Naturally, this is the highest figure among the EAEU countries. For example, in milk, we almost triple the volumes required for the domestic market. Self-sufficiency in meat has reached 140%, and in eggs, 131%," she said.

Belarus also leads in improving the standard and quality of life of its population. "We have the highest rate of real wage growth and one of the lowest poverty rates – 3.5%. In other EAEU countries, it ranges from 5% to 26%. The same applies to unemployment according to the International Labor Organization methodology. Russia has an even lower rate, but we are in second place with a rate of 3%," said Inna Medvedeva.

Belarus has high rates of mid-level medical personnel and practicing physicians, of whom we are proud. "Today, we are not only leaders within the EAEU, but also globally," she noted.

Regarding infant and maternal mortality, all measures have been taken to ensure these rates are minimal. "And we maintain this standard. We have some of the lowest rates, plus we are, again, leaders globally," the head of the committee emphasized.

Furthermore, approximately 4 million square meters of housing are built in Belarus annually. "We are among the top countries in terms of housing availability – last year it was 30.4 square meters per person, and this is one of the best indicators in the EAEU," noted Inna Medvedeva.
