This was stated by Minister of Foreign Affairs of Belarus Sergei Aleynik on February 22 at the first meeting of the joint standing commission on cooperation between Belarus and Zimbabwe, BELTA reports with reference to the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The HEAD of the Belarusian Foreign Ministry at the beginning of his speech noted that he was very glad to return to this friendly country and thanked the Zimbabwean side for the warm welcome of the Belarusian delegation in Harare.
“Relations between Minsk and Harare are based on trust and friendship. They are productive because the parties strive to implement joint projects for the benefit of both countries and their people,” the minister said. “The basis of our cooperation is the relationship between the two leaders, built on trust, and mutually beneficial cooperation based on honest relationships, time-tested." He positively assessed the holding of the business forum that preceded the commission meeting and proposed holding a similar business forum in Minsk.
Sergei Aleinik noted that in recent years, contacts between Belarus and Zimbabwe have increased significantly - in 2023, more than 15 Zimbabwean delegations visited Belarus, including the country’s first lady and the head of the Foreign Ministry. “We already have a success story, which we can be proud of. We must continue to work together so that our achievements grow and spread to other countries in Southern Africa, like Mozambique or Botswana, where our experience and best technologies are very much needed,” emphasized the head of the Belarusian foreign policy department.
During the historic visit of the President of Belarus to Harare in January 2023, a number of agreements were concluded in various areas, and they are being systematically implemented. During the current visit, the parties agreed to attract all the necessary resources to fully implement the third phase of the mechanization program, which provides for the supply of more than 3 thousand MTZ tractors and 80 Gomselmash combines to Zimbabwe.
As the minister said, Belarus intends to organize a national stand at the diversified international exhibition Zimbabwe International Trade Fair 2024 (ZITF), which will be held in April in Bulawayo. In addition, the parties agreed on the pilot participation of Zimbabwean companies in the Belagro exhibition in Minsk in June this year. The Zimbabwean side's immediate plans include a visit to the Bellakt enterprise to resolve the issue of certification and accreditation of Belarusian-made baby food and MILK powder in their country.
“Only through joint efforts can we strengthen our strategic friendly relations and implement new significant economic projects. Belarus is ready to continue to provide the necessary support to the government of Zimbabwe in achieving the country’s long-term strategy “Vision 2030”. In turn, we are ready to invite the Zimbabwean side to take advantage of the broad opportunities of Belarus as a member of the Eurasian Economic Union with its large and promising market,” emphasized Sergei Aleynik.
