European imports hinder the development of pig production in Indonesia

That Indonesian frozen pork producers are facing sales barriers due to large imports of Spanish and Danish meats.

Locally produced pork is losing competitiveness as the price of live pigs in Indonesia has risen amid the spread of African swine fever, which has drastically reduced supply.

Central Java frozen pork supplier Alvin Kosnanto said that in the Indonesian market, prices for fattening pigs and sows are $4.95 and $3.53 per kilogram of live weight, respectively.

Foreign-produced pork is much more affordable, so the demand for it is growing. For comparison: if pork belly from local suppliers is sold at $11.3 per kilogram, then imported - at $8.48 per kilogram.
