U.S. sanctions are an instrument of United States foreign policy designed to target other countries, organizations, or individuals in response to certain actions or policies that are not in the interests of the United States. These sanctions may include trade restrictions, financial restrictions, asset freezes, and other economic and political measures. U.S. sanctions are often used in response to human rights violations, nuclear or military programs, terrorism, aggressive actions against other countries, or other forms of unfriendly activity. However, sanctions have also been criticized for their impact on ordinary citizens, geopolitical tensions, and ability to achieve their goals.
