MINSK . The Vitebsk city department of the Investigative Committee is establishing the circumstances of the theft, Oksana Lazko, official representative of the Investigative Committee for the Vitebsk Region, told BELTA.
The incident occurred on August 9. In the evening, sellers at one of the stores in the regional center found empty boxes of
ALCOHOL on the shelves. The theft of 12 bottles worth almost Br3 thousand was reported to the police.
An investigative task force worked at the scene. Review of CCTV footage yielded results. "They show a man taking
alcohol out of the boxes , putting the bottles in a shopping basket, carrying
it through the self-service checkouts without paying for the goods, after which he gets behind the wheel of a premium Mercedes-Benz and drives away," the Investigative Committee reported. The perpetrator was quickly identified. The 37-year-old
man's car contained the stolen
alcohol . The suspect explained his actions by the desire to get an adrenaline rush from theft, checking whether he would be caught stealing. The detainee also confessed to stealing alcohol from another store. This information is being verified.
The Vitebsk city department of the Investigative Committee opened a criminal case against the 37-year-old man under Part 1 of Article 205 (theft) of the Criminal Code. The suspect has been detained.
The investigation of the criminal case continues, all the circumstances of the incident are being established.
