In Poland, the number of shoplifting increased by more than 30% in a year

March 10, Minsk. The number of shoplifting in Poland has increased by more than 30% over the year, Rzeczpospolita reports, citing data from the Republic's Main Police Department.

Thus, in 2022, the number of thefts in Polish stores increased by 31.1% year-on-year to more than 32.7 thousand cases.

It is noted that a large number of thefts are associated with basic food products. Also, products such as perfumes, expensive alcohol , and small electronics become the subject of theft.

According to law enforcement statistics, the number of offenses related to theft in large stores last year increased by 20.8% to 188.3 thousand cases, and in small stores - by 24.6%, to 46 thousand cases.

"The increase in the number of thefts is a clear signal of problems in the market. Rising prices are forcing more and more people to decide on this," said Renata Yushkevich, head of the Polish Trade and Distribution Organization.

According to the Central Statistical Office of Poland, in January 2023, prices for goods and consumer services increased by 17.2% compared to the same period last year. In December 2022, inflation was 16.6% in annual terms.
