In Kopyl, a drunk man was detained for desecration of a mass grave

July 7, Minsk. In Kopyl, a drunken man abused a mass grave, Elena Krupenina, official representative of the USC in the Minsk region, told BelTA.

On the morning of July 5, it became known that ritual wreaths had burned down near the monument to the soldiers-liberators in Kopyl. An investigative team immediately rushed to the scene. Items and objects related to the incident were confiscated.

“According to preliminary information, in the early morning, a resident of Kopyl, a 31-year-old unemployed man, was visiting a friend and drinking alcohol. Around 9.00, the company decided to go for more. On the way to the store, the suspect approached the mass grave and, acting with exceptional cynicism, set fire to ritual wreaths. As a result of his criminal actions, seven wreaths and one basket burned down. The man explained what he had done by alcohol intoxication," the USC noted.

The Kopyl district department of the Investigative Committee opened a criminal case under Part 2 of Article 347 of the Criminal Code (desecration of a mass grave). The man is detained. Witnesses are being questioned. During a search at the man's place of residence, a lighter was seized, with which he committed arson.

As it became known, the defendant abuses alcohol, does not work anywhere.

The investigation is ongoing.
