The President of Kazakhstan declared a state of emergency in Nur-Sultan

"In connection with a serious and immediate threat to the security of citizens, in order to ensure public safety, restore law and order, protect the rights and freedoms of citizens, introduce a state of emergency within the city of Nur-Sultan for the period from 16:00 on January 5, 2022 for a period of up to 00 hours 00 minutes on January 19, 2022," the decree says.

In the city for the period of the state of emergency, a curfew is introduced from 23.00 to 07.00.

The decree also provides for the creation of the commandant's office of the city of Nur-Sultan for the period of the state of emergency. In addition, a number of temporary restrictions are introduced in the city. The authorities will strengthen the protection of public order, the protection of especially important state and strategic facilities, as well as facilities that ensure the vital activity of the population and the functioning of transport.

"Establish restrictions on freedom of movement, including vehicles, in the city of Nur-Sultan; ensure the verification of identity documents of individuals, personal searches, searches of their belongings, vehicles; restrict entry into the city of Nur-Sultan, as well as exit from it; to prohibit the organization and holding of peaceful meetings, entertainment, sports and other mass events," the document says.
