The vast majority of applications to the Republican Scientific and Practical Center for Traumatology and Orthopedics on November 16 concerned icy injuries

November 17, MINSK. The vast majority of applications to the Republican Scientific and Practical Center for Traumatology and Orthopedics yesterday, November 16, concerned icy injuries. Andrey Yaroshevich, a traumatologist-orthopedist of the Republican Scientific and Practical Center for Traumatology and Orthopedics, told reporters about this, BelTA has learned.

“I can say from the admissions department that more than 45 people with injuries were admitted yesterday. The main part is precisely ice injury,” Andriy Yaroshevich said, adding that with the onset of winter time and precipitation, the number of victims always increases by 2-3 times .

An orthopedic traumatologist noted that the most common traumatic injuries are fractures of the forearm, collarbone, bruises and fractures of the humerus, shin bones, damage to the ligamentous apparatus. More dangerous are craniocerebral injuries, combined with injuries and falls, injuries in the elderly associated with fractures of the hip and femoral neck.

An aggravating factor for all injuries is ALCOHOL intoxication, Andrei Yaroshevich drew attention. According to him, 30% of the victims are people who got to the doctors in a state of intoxication. Moreover, the injuries in such people are more severe.

An orthopedic traumatologist named potentially dangerous places in case of ice. Among them are exits from the entrance, where warm air masses meet cold ones, steps of entrances, underground passages, and vehicle stops. Such places are best avoided.

"Doctors are sure that the vast majority of icy injuries can be avoided. it is enough to pick up a cane or refuse luggage in your hands. Take a cart and roll it with you if you are an elderly person. It is much more convenient and your hands will be freer," Andrey noted. Yaroshevich.

For older people, the DOCTOR recommended not to go out at all on ice. "Don't go out for a sweet bun for tea when it's icy outside. Stay at home, wait out this period of time," he said. Moreover, both television and the Ministry of Emergency Situations inform about periods of adverse weather conditions.

When there is ice on the street, it is better to move with slow short steps, as if sideways, Andrey Yaroshevich recommended. You should abandon high heels and switch to shoes with good grooved soles.

The doctor also gave some recommendations if the fall still cannot be avoided. “You shouldn’t fall on your limbs, you should try to fall on your side with your arm outstretched. You shouldn’t fall on your back, because such a fall is associated with a HEAD hit, and this is always an aggravating factor,” he said.

Athletes have a trick. “Have you ever seen skaters fall? They fall and throw their arm forward without touching the ice. And at the same time they give kinetic energy to the whole body and it seems to slide on the ice. Not everyone can do it, but such a skill in In many ways, it will help to avoid more serious injuries even for a young person," Andrei Yaroshevich noted.

According to him, a second is enough to get injured, and its treatment takes a long period of time. For example, recovery after a ligament injury will take 2-3 weeks of hospital treatment, an ankle fracture - a month and a half, a fracture in the ankle joint - up to 2-3 months, if there was an operation - up to six months a person will walk on crutches.
