ALCOHOL intoxication is one of the main causes of death on water. Official representative of OSVOD Ekaterina Mikhaleva told BELTA reporters about this.
“The main reasons are falling into the water or swimming while under the influence of alcohol or drugs. These can be various situations when swimming. Starting from trying to swim across a body of water on a dare and ending with swimming behind the buoys,” said Ekaterina Mikhaleva.
In turn, OSVOD diving specialist Yuri Shturkhetsky recalled the rules of safe behavior on the water. “You should only swim in authorized places with equipped beaches. Under no circumstances should you swim behind buoys or enter the water while intoxicated. When using sports equipment, such as a paddle board, wearing a life jacket is mandatory,” he said.
If we are talking about children, then adults should teach them safety rules by personal example. “Children should be closely monitored, not let out of sight, and under no circumstances allowed to swim behind the buoys. Small children are recommended to swim in shallow water,” Yuri Shturhetsky emphasized.
