In addition to honey production, the Sotovmyod peasant farm teaches beekeeping from scratch. The educational program is relevant for both beginning amateur beekeepers and industrial enterprises launching honey and beekeeping product production.
"The head of the farm is a hereditary beekeeper with 28 years of experience and specialized education, who is now sharing his experience. In 2019, the farm received a grant of 3.7 million rubles. Today, it has 150 bee colonies in its own apiaries in Lotoshino and Volokolamsk urban districts and produces up to 10 tons of honey per year," said Georgy Filimonov, Deputy Chairman of the Moscow Region Government, who oversees the Ministry of Agriculture and Food.
Specialists introduce interested participants to the basics of beekeeping, conduct an introductory course, and recommend specialized literature and educational institutions. Anyone can complete an internship at the apiary and put all the acquired knowledge into practice on "training" hives.
As the farm's director notes, the training program varies depending on the client's needs. There have been cases where clients came to learn beekeeping as a hobby, but later went on to produce honey professionally and monetize their passion.
The "Beekeeping from Scratch" course focuses on maximizing theoretical knowledge while minimizing costs and losses in practice. It also includes consultations on selecting land, hives, and purchasing bees and equipment.
Over the past two years, more than 50 beekeepers have completed the course.
Today, the farm produces three types of honey and bee products, which are sold retail and wholesale, and also conducts bee breeding.
