In Grodno and the Grodno region, foreign citizens committed more than 70 serious traffic violations.

December 6, MINSK . With the arrival of cold weather, roads become more dangerous, as in winter everything depends on the weather. To prevent road accidents, a meeting was held in Grodno with employers, traffic police officers, the State Traffic Inspectorate, and foreign citizens holding temporary residence permits in our country, BelTA learned from the Grodno Regional Executive Committee's Department of Internal Affairs.

Police Lieutenant Colonel Andrei Rutkevich, HEAD of the inter-district traffic police department of the regional executive committee, spoke about the developing situation on the roads of the city and the Grodno region. "In the first nine months of 2025, 236 foreigners were brought to administrative responsibility for serious violations in the region alone (an increase of 109 compared to last year)," he cited statistics. "In Grodno and the Grodno region, foreign citizens committed 73 serious traffic violations." 

Two administrative cases were heard during the event. In the first case, a foreign citizen, being in a stateWhile driving a Volkswagen while intoxicated , he lost control, left the roadway, and drove into a ditch. His exhaled ALCOHOL level was just over 2 ppm. The resulting fine was 200 base units and a five-year driving ban.

In the second case, a foreigner was driving a Kia, failed to ensure his actions were safe, and collided with a Belgee. The driver was driving without compulsory insurance. The result: a six-base unit fine and a nine-month driving ban.

"For foreign citizens, an offense always entails consequences stipulated by migration law," explained Olga Zhuk, senior inspector for foreign citizens and stateless persons at the OGiM Department of Internal Affairs of the Oktyabrsky District Administration of Grodno. "After a foreigner has committed a serious offense, we have the right to consider deporting the person from Belarus." 

The preventive meeting ended with a viewing of a public service announcement aimed at preventing road accidents.
