WP has learned that the US will announce sanctions against Russia next week

The White House is working to approve $10 billion in budgetary aid to Ukraine, and is also set to announce a new military aid package for Kiev and new sanctions against Moscow next week, the Washington Post (WP) reports, citing sources.

“[U.S. President] Joe Biden’s administration is working with Congress to approve another $10 billion in direct budgetary aid to Ukraine, it [the administration] is expected to announce another major military aid package next week and further sanctions on the Kremlin around at the same time," the release said.

At the same time, the newspaper emphasizes that some officials in the Biden administration believe that the conflict has dragged on and that a “decisive moment” is coming for Ukraine. WP also notes that after the victory of the Republicans in the House of Representatives, the opinion of parliamentarians regarding the future support of Ukraine was divided.

After the start of the Russian special operation in Ukraine, Western countries imposed sanctions against Moscow , and also began to provide Kiev with military and financial assistance. The United States , in particular, last year provided Ukraine with assistance in the amount of more than $50 billion, including $20 billion in military assistance.

The Russian side has repeatedly criticized the supply of weapons to Ukraine by Western countries. The Foreign Ministry warned that the geographical tasks of the Russian troops "will be pushed back even further" if Kyiv receives long-range weapons. President Vladimir Putin noted that Moscow will achieve its goals and fulfill the tasks of the special operation, and the supply of weapons only prolongs the conflict.
