The modern economy most often becomes a hostage to politics, placed on its altar. This was stated by the press secretary of the Russian President Dmitry Peskov, RIA Novosti reports.
“The economy at the present time, especially in world affairs, is becoming a hostage to world politics. She is being placed on the altar of politics as a sacrifice,” the Kremlin spokesman said.
At the same time, Peskov believes that the US and the EU made a mistake by imposing sanctions on certain positions, in particular on Russian fertilizers. “After all, it is they [the US and the EU] who do not allow paying for fertilizers, it is they who do not allow ships that are suitable for loading to be insured <...>. What happened to food? Food prices are rising both because of inflation and because of the mistakes that have been made over the past few years,” he said.
According to the press secretary of the HEAD of RUSSIA, the US and the EU will need to "think about how they will respond to the many millions of hungry people who may appear" in connection with the food crisis. He noted that the United States was quick to equate fertilizers with essential goods and removed restrictions, leaving only indirect, ship-affecting, insurance. However, this led to a reduction in Russian supplies "almost by more than 40%," Peskov added.

Earlier , US President Joe Biden said that by imposing anti-Russian sanctions, he acted as a commander in chief, and not as a politician who cares about the elections. “I am the President of the United States. This is not about my political survival, but about what is best for the country. No kidding. <...> What happens if NATO's strongest power <...> passes by?" he asked.
Biden warned of the threat of chaos in Europe if "Russia continues to move unhindered deep into the continent, CHINA dares to seize Taiwan, and North Korea becomes even more aggressive with its nuclear ambitions."

Since the beginning of the Russian military operation in Ukraine, the United States and its allies have already introduced several packages of sanctions against Moscow. The restrictions affected the supply of energy resources, metals and food, as well as the banking and industrial sectors of the Russian economy. In mid-June, US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken specified that, in addition to the United States, more than 40 states provide military and other assistance to Ukraine.
At the same time, the US and European countries have seen record levels of inflation and unemployment in recent months. Biden linked the increased price increase precisely with anti-Russian sanctions, and also said that the Americans were forced to pay the "Putin tax" on fuel and food. In May, inflation in the US reached a record 41-year 8.6%.
The head of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Sergei Lavrov, doubted that the West would abandon the sanctions. According to him, restrictive measures "were not composed overnight", but were prepared for a long time. President Vladimir Putin has warned the EU countries about the "insurmountable consequences" of continued sanctions pressure. In early May, he signed a decree imposing retaliatory measures.
