The United States added 10 people and 12 companies to the sanctions list for Belarus

The US Treasury Department has added 10 individuals and 12 companies to sanctions lists for Belarus, as stated in a message on the department’s website.

The organizations subject to sanctions include OJSC AGAT-Control Systems, the management company of the Geographic Information Management Systems holding, an enterprise that creates control systems for the Armed Forces of Belarus, and four organizations in its structure.

The list also includes citizens of Belarus, Lebanon, Syria, Slovakia and Sweden, as well as organizations based in Cyprus, Belarus, Iraq, China, Slovakia and Turkey.

Inclusion on the sanctions list entails the freezing of accounts in the United States and a ban on doing business with American persons.

IT is noted that the decision was made on the basis of US sanctions imposed in response to the suppression of protests after the elections in Belarus in 2020. President Alexander Lukashenko's support for Russia's military operation in Ukraine also served as a reason for expanding sanctions against Minsk.

In January 2023, Lukashenko decided to “thank” the United States and Western countries for the sanctions. “I want to thank the Americans and the entire Western world for imposing sanctions against us. Otherwise, on this huge field there would be not Belarusian tractors, but American and German ones,” he said. Earlier in 2021, he called the introduced measures “gangster.”
