Slovakia will oppose if nuclear fuel is included in the 12th package of EU sanctions against RUSSIA, Foreign Minister of the Republic Juraj Blanar said, the HNonline portal reports.

“Our red line is that [the sanctions package] should not contain nuclear fuel. Because our nuclear power plants have not yet been transformed enough to be able to operate on other, alternative fuels,” Blanar explained.

He emphasized that if this item is in the new package of anti-Russian sanctions, Bratislava will veto it. So, when preparing restrictions, it will be necessary to carefully study their consequences not only for the EU , but also for Slovakia, the minister added.

An EC representative told RBC in mid-November that the European Commission (EC) had already approved proposals for the 12th package of sanctions against Russia. According to him, the new sanctions package is aimed at “cutting Russia’s remaining income from diamond exports to Europe and partner countries.”

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen said restrictive measures would include “new import and EXPORT bans and action to tighten the oil price ceiling.” According to BLOOMBERG , the new restrictions will affect about €5 billion of trade turnover between Russia and the EU.

EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell proposed including over 120 individuals and legal entities from Russia in the new package of sanctions. The European External Action Service noted that potential sanctions should affect the Russian military and defense industries, as well as the IT sector.
