
Average prices for cucumbers in Russian stores fell by 8.6% over the period from February 26 to March 18, RBC calculated based on Rosstat's weekly reports on the assessment of the consumer price index. In the week ending February 25, 1 kg of cucumbers cost an average of 202.9 rubles in retail. Three weeks later, by March 18, it was already 185.5 rubles.
Cucumbers have become the only product that has fallen in price since the beginning of the military special operation in Ukraine. After the introduction of Western sanctions and the devaluation of the ruble in three weeks, from February 26 to March 18, prices in Russia rose by 6.2%, follows from Rosstat data.
The most expensive product for three weeks, according to RBC's calculations, was sugar: its prices rose by 32.6%. The five most expensive products also include vegetables and fruits: tomatoes (+30.8%), bananas (+28.7%), onions (+17.8), and white cabbage (+12.5%).
