The Egyptian Cabinet on May 6 announced restrictions on the work of shops and cafes, obliging them to close at 21:00 Cairo time (22:00 Moscow time). Restrictive measures were in effect until May 21, but were extended until the end of the month. On the days of religious holidays that fell in the middle of the month, parks and public beaches were also closed in the country. An exception was made only for tourist resort areas.
As the agency notes, tourism revenues, which significantly affect the state treasury, fell by 70% in 2020 due to the pandemic. Tourism typically accounts for up to 15% of a country's GDP.
