Sweden and Denmark suspend Moderna vaccination among young people

Due to precautionary measures, Sweden and Denmark have suspended the Moderna vaccine for young people. it is reported by The Local and Associated Press.

So, the Danish Ministry of HEALTH confirmed to The Local that the country has temporarily suspended Moderna vaccination for people under 18 due to “precautions”.

They also explained that people aged 12 to 17 are now assigned only the Pfizer vaccine. “The decision was made not least in light of the fact that to date, the most data has been collected on the use of (Pfizer vaccines) for children and young people, especially from the United States and Israel,” said Health Secretary Bolette Seborg.

In turn, the Swedish authorities have suspended vaccination against covid-19 with Moderna's drug for young people under the age of 30 due to an increased risk of side effects such as inflammation of the heart muscle or pericardium. The country's health department noted that the risk of this side effect is very small, reports Associated Press.

Anders Tegnell, Chief State Epidemiologist of Sweden, said the authorities are “closely monitoring the situation and taking immediate action” to ensure the safety and effectiveness of vaccination.
