April 18, Minsk. Motorcycle drivers will be held liable for carrying drunken passengers. Alexander Zanimon, Deputy Head of the Main Department - Head of the Department for Organizational Work and Enforcement of Law Enforcement, told reporters about this, BelTA has learned.

Alexander Zanimon explained why the corresponding norm was introduced. "There are cases when a driver in a sober state drives a vehicle and at the same time transports a passenger in a state of intoxication . For the driver to take certain safety measures, this rule was provided. Now the driver will be held liable for violation of the rules for transporting passengers," - he said.

The norm on giving preference to pedestrians will be enshrined in the rules of the road, the deputy head added. "Earlier, in the comments to the traffic rules, it was stated that the advantage is considered granted if the distance between the vehicle and the approaching pedestrian is at least two lanes. But in order to eliminate misunderstandings in the interpretation and possible conflict situations, this recommendation was normatively fixed," - stressed Alexander Zanimon.

The envisaged changes come into effect six months after the official publication of the decree.
