Crime expected to rise during Olympics in Paris

A prosecutor says the thousands of internal security personnel who will be deployed in Paris during the Olympics may not be enough to stop crime.

According to her, among the expected crimes are cyber attacks, pickpocketing, as well as acts of violence, including sexual ones.

Laura Becco linked the possible increase in the number of crimes with a large flow of tourists and ALCOHOL consumption.

The prosecutor drew particular attention to the risk of cyber attacks. "We know that cyber attacks will increase because previous Olympic Games have been victims of these attacks," she said.

In connection with such expectations, the Paris prosecutor's office decided to strengthen its staff this summer.

The XXXIII Summer Olympic Games will be held in France from July 26 to August 11. Security during this period will be provided by about 45 thousand French police and gendarmes and about 20 thousand military.
