The Leninsky District Court of Brest issued a verdict in a criminal case of violation of traffic rules by a drunk driver of a car, which negligently resulted in the infliction of serious bodily harm on a motorcyclist. The drunken lawless man was sentenced to four years in a maximum security penal colony. BELTA was informed about this by the press service of the Brest Regional
Court.
The accused in July last year, without a driver's license, got behind the wheel of a Ford Escort in a state of
alcohol intoxication . While driving along Lieutenant Ryabtseva Street in Brest, a drunken motorist at an unregulated intersection did not give the right of way to an oncoming Racer RC300CK-N motorcycle and collided with
it. As a result of the accident, the driver of the motorcycle was seriously injured.
The accused fully admitted his guilt in the crime committed, sincerely repented, and took measures to voluntarily compensate for the material and moral damage caused to the injured motorcyclist.
The court found the defendant guilty of violating traffic rules as a person driving a vehicle while intoxicated, which was the reason for causing grievous bodily harm through negligence, and on the basis of Part 4 of Article 317 of the Criminal Code imposed a sentence of imprisonment for a term 4 years with serving a sentence in a correctional colony under general regime conditions with deprivation of the right to engage in activities related to driving vehicles for a period of 8 years.
The verdict has not entered into legal force and can be appealed and protested in the manner prescribed by law.
