A farmer in the Yelets district grows strawberries in sterile conditions and without pesticides .
Two years ago, Nikita Karasev received a 3 million ruble grant from Agrostartup under the national project "Small and Medium Entrepreneurship" to build a year-round greenhouse. He built it and equipped it with everything necessary in the village of Cherkasskiye Dvoriki. Daylight hours, indoor temperature, and fertilizer supply are all controlled automatically.
Pesticide treatments are not used, as the emphasis in cultivation is on creating sterile conditions. Modern technology allows for soilless cultivation by delivering nutrients to the roots through a flow-through system. This reduces the risk of introducing diseases and pests with the soil. The air is also filtered and disinfected. Contact with the outdoors and the external environment is minimized. Even the greenhouse owner and his workers change their shoes, put on special gowns, and wear protective clothing before entering the greenhouse.Gloves . The bushes are cross-pollinated without bees or bumblebees, using airflow.
The harvest is fully ripe, when the berries turn red on the bush. The produce is sold in Lipetsk at mini-markets and farm produce retailers.
Over the course of two years, they managed not only to build a greenhouse but also perfect the growing process. While there were some unsuccessful attempts, overall, Nikita Karasev is satisfied with the business and intends to perfect his greenhouse. That is, to harvest one kilogram of berries from each bush during a single fruiting period. The greenhouse itself is designed to accommodate 4,600 seedlings. The entrepreneur has not yet reached full capacity.
"Growing fruit and berry crops is the second most popular area for receiving the Agrostartup grant. Over the past five years, Lipetsk farmers have implemented more than 30 projects with its help. Incidentally, the Yelets residents are leaders in berry cultivation with the help of Agrostartup." "Municipality residents have received seven grants," noted Lipetsk Region Governor Igor Artamonov.
