Today, almost 50 tribal organizations operate on the territory of the Don region.
On the basis of the Regional Information and Breeding Center of the Rostov Regional (RISC) Station for the Control of Animal Diseases, a laboratory for the immunogenetic examination of farm animals began to operate.
The opening of the genetic analysis laboratory is the result of the joint work of the Don Ministry of Agriculture and Food and Veterinary Administration of the Rostov Region.
“The opening of the laboratory will provide Don livestock breeders with high-quality genetic material and will help increase the competitiveness of local enterprises in the market,” said Viktor Goncharov, First Deputy Governor of the Rostov Region.
The new laboratory is focused on conducting tests to determine the blood group of animals, necessary to confirm the authenticity of origin.
“In its work, the laboratory uses methods for determining the blood groups of parents and offspring, followed by data analysis. In other words, a calf can only have a combination of maternal or paternal blood types. The appearance of other combinations indicates that one of the parents is listed incorrectly,” said Pavel Nikiteev, HEAD of the Regional Information and Breeding Center.
The plans of the head of the RISC include the creation of a unified card index of animal producers with data on their blood groups "ZooExpert".
These data will allow keeping an accurate record of the genetic lines of animals, maintaining genetic diversity within the breed and preventing inbreeding.
Recall that today there are 49 tribal organizations in the region. Most of them - 22 organizations - are engaged in beef cattle breeding, 12 - sheep breeding, seven - dairy farming, five - horse breeding, one - poultry farming. The hippodrome and the Regional Information and Selection Center also operate.
