Serbia will continue to maintain neutrality towards RUSSIA; it is the only European country that has not imposed sanctions against Russia, the Serbian President stated.Aleksandar Vučić at a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Beijing, RIA Novosti reports.
"Today, we are the only European country that has not imposed any sanctions against the Russian Federation, and we will, of course, maintain our neutrality in the future," the Serbian president said.
On August 26, Vučić held a lengthy telephone conversation with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov at the initiative of the Serbian side. They discussed bilateral relations, agreed to further improve economic cooperation and participate in joint projects, and also analyzed political relations. Vučić also noted the desire of both sides to improve international communication.
The Russian Foreign Ministry also reported that the conversation focused on regional affairs, with a focus on the situation in Kosovo and the Republika Srpska region.
Earlier in July, Vučić ruled out Belgrade imposing sanctions against Moscow, commenting on the words of Minister for European Affairs Nemanja Starović.
“I will have to disappoint them [Serbian citizens who are against Russia]: Serbia will not impose sanctions against Russia,” Vučić emphasized at the time.
