In June 2021, according to the Moscow Department of HEALTH, 3,145 more people died in the city compared to June last year. This is due to the increase in the incidence of covid-19.due to delta strain and abnormal heat

In Moscow, 16,271 deaths were registered in June 2021, according to the Moscow Department of Health. This is 3145, or 23.9% more than in the same period last year, when 13,128 deaths were reported.

According to the city authorities, the increase in mortality is due to two reasons. One of them is the jump in the number of CORONAVIRUS infections this month, which occurred due to the spread of the delta variant (the Indian SARS-CoV-2 strain): compared to May 2021, the average daily incidence has more than doubled (from 2812 until 5942).

Due to the coronavirus as the main cause of death, 4,886 Muscovites died last month. Another 641 people died from other causes, but with concomitant COVID-19. Of these, in 291 cases, coronavirus had a significant impact on the development of the underlying disease and its fatal complications.

Golikova reported a 13.9% increase in deaths in June due to the delta strain Economics

As of July 1, the mortality rate from COVID-19 in Moscow is 2.78%, if we take into account only cases where the coronavirus has become the main cause of death. When taking into account all cases where coronovirus was the main or concomitant disease, this figure is 3.88%.
