The number of people infected with the omicron strain in RUSSIA over the New Year holidays has tripled and amounts to 305 people, Anna Popova, HEAD of Rospotrebnadzor, said at a meeting of the Presidium of the Coordinating Council under the Russian government to combat covid-19 , the broadcast was hosted by Russia 24.

She said that 49 cases were detected in two outbreaks in student dormitories in the regions of Russia, but these outbreaks have already been eliminated. Popova also stated that infections with the new strain have been registered in 13 regions.
