The nasal vaccine against CORONAVIRUS infection, developed by specialists from the Gamaleya Research Center for Epidemiology and Microbiology, shows high protection against all strains of coronavirus, DIRECTOR of the center Alexander Gintsburg told RIA Novosti.

“The currently available and already registered nasal vaccine, we see, shows high efficiency in protecting against all strains, forming mucosal immunity to the pathogen,” the scientist said.

The Ministry of HEALTH registered the world's first nasal vaccine against the Gam-COVID-Wak coronavirus on April 1. “The vaccine, like Sputnik V, consists of two components based on adenoviral vectors of the 26th and 5th types and is administered using a special spray nozzle into the nasal cavity with an interval of three weeks, that is, in the “prime” mode. The drug forms immunity on the mucous membrane of the respiratory tract. Patients have increased titers of IgA antibodies in the blood and nasal mucus and IgG antibodies that neutralize the virus in the blood. The drug also induces a cellular immune response to the coronavirus, the ministry said.

The nasal vaccine against COVID-19 was developed by the Center. Gamaleya, who also created the world's first registered coronavirus vaccine Sputnik V. The Ministry of Health authorized its clinical trials last October, 500 volunteers were supposed to take part in them until December 31, 2023.

Gunzburg said that it would be necessary to apply the spray no more than once every six months. Someone who was additionally vaccinated with a nasal vaccine would not spread the virus, he argued.
