Russia's National Meat Association Warns of Risks of Declining Beef Production

Otherwise, according to the NMA, beef production in Russia will continue to decline. Currently, there is a duty-free tariff on 100 thousand tons of frozen beef, but in 2025, the share of imports and insufficient support for domestic production may worsen the situation. The main problem is the high cost of loans and the low level of assistance to beef cattle breeding compared to the dairy segment.

The association also warns of a possible sharp decline in the cattle population , which fell by 2.3% in 2023 and by 4.1% in 2024. If current trends continue, beef production could fall by 11% by 2030. The NMA emphasizes that in order to restore the industry, it is necessary to increase profitability at all stages of production.
