The lifting of anti-Russian sanctions by Western countries is not enough to resume the work of the YouTube video hosting service in RUSSIA, Deputy Chairman of the State Duma for Information Policy, Information Technology and Communications Anton Gorelkin told TASS . He noted that several key issues remain unresolved, including unpaid fines by GOOGLE .
"One condition for lifting sanctions is not enough. Even if Google once again gets the opportunity to make payments to Russian counterparties and service its equipment installed at telecom operators, several important questions remain open," the parliamentarian said.
He emphasized that the opaque policy of blocking Russian media and bloggers' accounts, as well as the video hosting service's ignoring of COURT decisions to remove illegal content, remain important problems. The deputy HEAD of the committee also recalled the need for Google to comply with the requirements of the Russian law on "landing", which obliges the company to open a representative office in Russia.
Gorelkin noted that Google must pay all fines in Russia or reach an agreement that suits both parties.
In July 2024 , Roskomnadzor cited Google's departure from Russia and the end of infrastructure support on Russian communication networks as the reasons for YouTube's slowdown. In turn, Google stated that access problems were not related to technical reasons or the company's actions.
