A new forum on animal protection in Russia: problems and solutions

Dinara Ageeva, chair of the public organization "Voices for Animals," presented data on 50 cases of animal cruelty on farms across the country over the past three years. Low levels of oversight in private farms remain a problem, as noted by Yulia Melano, advisor to ROSSELKHOZNADZOR .

Konstantin Viktorov, Deputy DIRECTOR of the Ministry of Agriculture's Veterinary Department, highlighted issues related to industrial emergencies that can lead to mass animal deaths. Sergey Sereda, President of the Russian Association of Practicing Veterinarians and Honored Veterinarian of RUSSIA, addressed the issue of animal slaughter in agriculture:
"The mass use of curare-like drugs for animal euthanasia is sadistic and a criminal offense."

Ways to improve animal welfare legislation were also discussed, including the implementation of modern technologies for monitoring the welfare of animals on farms. Ultimately, the forum participants agreed on the need for further dialogue and collaboration with NGOs to address pressing issues.
