January 15,
MINSK . At a press conference, Yevgeny Yudakov,
HEAD of the substation No. 11 of the City Ambulance Station, spoke about how to avoid frostbite and hypothermia in winter, a BELTA correspondent reports.
"Frostbite most often affects protruding parts of the body: fingers and toes, nose, ears, etc. Therefore, these parts of the body should be covered, i.e. wear a hat, scarf,
gloves .
it is also necessary to use comfortable shoes. Tight shoes provoke hypothermia and frostbite.
"Alcohol gives a false feeling of warming up, but then hypothermia occurs faster than in a sober person," said Evgeny Yudakov. He also added that in severe frost it is advisable to limit the time spent outdoors, read the weather forecast before leaving the house and choose appropriate clothing. At the same time, you should not smoke in the cold, because smoking reduces peripheral blood circulation and makes
the body more vulnerable to the cold. You also need to hide from the wind. In severe frosts, you should not wear metal jewelry.
You should not use snow to rub frostbitten limbs, since snow crystals lead to additional skin trauma. Rubbing frozen parts of the body with
ALCOHOL or vodka is also prohibited, because they cause moisture and additional heat removal from the tissue. It is also not recommended to warm up in a hot bath.
"If some part of your body has been hypothermic, then it should be warmed up gradually, starting with fairly cool water, gradually increasing its temperature," noted Evgeny Yudakov. He also pointed out that signs of frostbite include loss of sensitivity in the extremities and their white color. At the same time, sharp
pain may begin during warming up .
