Kuwait's State Administration for Agriculture and Fisheries (PAAAFR) has banned the import of poultry from Djibouti, Mali and Romania due to outbreaks of avian influenza in those countries. Authorities said in a Sunday press release that they had lifted the ban on the import of all live birds, hatching eggs, chicks and hens from Lithuania and Ireland following reports of any new cases of bird flu. not reported in these countries.

The PAAAFR confirmed that all imports must be subject to the conditions set by the Department of Animal Health and the rules of the World Organization for Animal Health, in addition to the conditions set by the veterinary quarantine rules applied in Kuwait and other countries, the Arab Times reported.

An outbreak of avian influenza (H5N8) was confirmed in Romania last week and 180,000 birds were killed. An EU member state is one of the latest within the bloc to deal with avian influenza (AI). Other countries still affected by the disease are Hungary, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Germany, France, Poland, Denmark, Slovakia, Belgium and Sweden.
