An intoxicated driver was driving a Mercedes along Pogranichnaya Street in the agricultural settlement of Makarovo, heading from Vysokoe to Tokari. According to preliminary information, near house number 17A, he struck a 30-year-old pedestrian who was walking along the edge of the roadway in the same direction, without identifying himself with a reflective element at night.
Despite medical intervention, the pedestrian died at the scene.
The driver fled the scene but was quickly apprehended by police in Brest. A criminal case has been opened under Part 3 of Article 159 and Part 4 of Article 317 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of
Belarus .
The State Traffic Inspectorate reminds that in the event of a traffic accident, the driver is obligated to remain at the scene, provide assistance to the victim, not move the vehicle or any objects related to the incident, and report the incident to the police and an ambulance.
