Mortality with COVID in Russia since the beginning of the year has exceeded 250 thousand people

The number of deaths from COVID in August slightly decreased compared to the July record, to 49.4 thousand, Rosstat reported. Since the beginning of the year, the total mortality among those infected with COVID has exceeded 250 thousand people, of which 100 thousand have died.

In August 2021, 49,389 people died in Russia who were ill with COVID-19 at the time of death , which is 3% less than the adjusted July coronavirus mortality rate of 51,044 deaths, which is a record for the entire time of the pandemic in Russia. This was announced on Friday, October 8, in the monthly operational report on the vital movement of the population by Rosstat. In total, since the beginning of the year, the death rate among patients with coronavirus has exceeded 250 thousand people against 163.3 thousand for the whole of last year.

The August figure according to the nomenclature of Rosstat includes:

38,603 cases where COVID is recognized as the main cause of death; 4,977 cases where COVID is suspected as the underlying cause, but more research is needed; 1,254 deaths - coronavirus was a concomitant disease, accelerating the death of the patient; 4,555 deaths - coronavirus was a concomitant disease, but did not affect the lethal outcome.

In July, covid deaths in Russia jumped sharply, exceeding 50,000 for the first time, amid the spread of the more dangerous delta strain of the coronavirus. Over the past two summer months, the number of deaths among coronavirus patients has exceeded 100 thousand cases.
