Mortality from COVID-19 in the Novosibirsk region was 6 times higher

According to Rosstat statistics, 1,703 residents died from coronavirus in the Novosibirsk region in July. At the same time, according to the operational headquarters of the region, less than 300 people died from COVID-19 during the same period. Thus, the indicators diverged almost 6 times.

Also, the Rosstat report indicates that since the beginning of the year, 6,953 people infected with COVID-19 have died, in almost 5.7 thousand patients the disease has become the main cause of death. However, the regional operational headquarters reported less than 2.5 thousand deaths.

The discrepancy in the data was recorded in previous periods as well. Then the Ministry of Health of the Novosibirsk Region reported that the difference was due to the fact that only those fatal cases were included in the report of the operational headquarters, when coronavirus was the main cause of death. Patients who were diagnosed with coronavirus, but the main cause of their death was another disease, are not included in the statistics of the operational headquarters.

In total, according to Rosstat, in July 2021, 5.7 thousand people died from various causes in the Novosibirsk Region. During the same period, 2.5 thousand children were born in the region.
