S7 Airlines has suspended its participation in the Oneworld alliance, RBC was told in the press service of the carrier. “Due to the restriction of international flights, the business interaction between S7 Airlines and the Oneworld alliance has been significantly reduced. In this situation, S7 Airlines and Oneworld made a joint decision to suspend the agreement on the airline's participation in the alliance from April 19, 2022.
The company noted that this will affect a small number of travelers due to existing flight restrictions. S7 reported in November 2020 that during the ten years of membership in the Oneworld alliance, more than 2 million passengers flew on a single ticket of S7 Airlines and a partner airline from Oneworld. “Annually, the airlines of the alliance transport more than 535 million travelers, while forming a transfer flow of 8 million passengers,” the carrier said.
S7 allowed paying for tickets in installments using the Shares service Business
For passengers, the benefits of existing S7 bilateral agreements with partner airlines remain. Privileges within Oneworld will be temporarily unavailable. Miles are credited and written off in the regular mode. However, as reported on the carrier's website, award tickets and miles accrual have been suspended by American Airlines from March 1, British Airways and Iberia from March 14, Alaska Airlines from April 8. Miles can be earned on all Qatar Airways flights, but award tickets are temporarily unavailable.
S7 joined the Oneworld alliance in 2010. It includes several of the world's leading airlines and about 30 subsidiary carriers. Its members operate more than 14,000 flights daily to nearly 1,000 destinations around the world.
Another Russian carrier, Aeroflot, is part of the SkyTeam alliance.
Since March 5, S7 has suspended all flights abroad due to sanctions and the risk of arrest of aircraft by lessors.
