The Russians assessed their willingness to work for an “envelope salary”

Today, 39% of Russians are ready to get a job with a “black” or “gray” salary, a SuperJob survey showed. The results are at the disposal of RBC.

“This is less than at the height of the coronavirus pandemic and in pre-Covid 2019,” the study notes. In 2019, 60% of Russians agreed to the “salary in an envelope”, and during the lockdown period in April 2020, 46%.

The survey involved 1.6 thousand representatives of the economically active population from all districts of the country over 18 years old. The survey was conducted from August 18 to September 2, 2021.

The salary is called “black” if a person works without an employment contract, and the actual employer does not withhold personal income tax and contributions from the money paid to him. With a “gray” salary, payments to an employee are divided into two amounts. The first, which, as a rule, is much less, goes through documents, and mandatory deductions come from it. The employee receives the second part informally, past the cash register.

When the tension in the labor market subsides, the number of those who agree to work in a company with double entry decreases. In September 2020, this figure dropped to 39%, and during the second wave of the coronavirus pandemic in December 2020, it rose again to 44%.
