Popova called the share of infections "stealth-omicron" in Russia

The more contagious subspecies of omicron VA.2, or stealth omicron, accounts for about 3% of cases of infection with this strain in RUSSIA, Anna Popova, HEAD of Rospotrebnadzor, said in an interview with Naila Asker-zade on the Russia 1 TV channel.

“The first version of VA.2 was identified on 13 January. Enough time has not passed, and today in our database of all Omicron strains, 3% falls on this line. Colleagues from Denmark say that it is more contagious, in this country the share of such a subspecies is very high - over 80% there, ”said the head of Rospotrebnadzor.

Two days earlier, Popova said that cases of infection with "stealth-omicron" were recorded in Moscow, the Rostov region, the Republic of Mari El and Bashkiria. According to her, more than 15.2 thousand cases of infection with the omicron strain covid-19 were detected in Russia in 83 regions.

The BA.2 "omicron" mutation was found in three people in the city of Uppsala in southern Sweden on January 14. The subspecies was also identified in Denmark, Norway and Indian Calcutta, and at the end of January, a case of infection with BA.2 was registered in the UK.
