
Farewell to the People's Artist of Russia, director Leonid Kheifets, who died on April 18, will be held on April 21 at the Moscow Academic Theater. Vl. Mayakovsky, RBC was told in the press service of the Russian Institute of Theater Arts (GITIS).
The civil memorial service will begin at 11:00. The director will be buried at the Troekurovsky cemetery.
Kheifetz died at the age of 88. The cause of death was not reported. The rector of GITIS, Grigory Zaslavsky, said that last week the director was discharged from the hospital and "was in a good, cheerful mood."

In 1998, Kheifets began working as a director at the Vladimir Mayakovsky Moscow Academic Theatre. Among his productions are Miller's All My Sons, Ibsen's A Doll's House, Shaw's Pygmalion. He also staged performances in other theaters: for example, Chekhov's The Cherry Orchard at the Mossovet Theatre, Shakespeare's King Lear at the Maly Theatre.
In addition to theatrical works, his film interpretations of Russian classics are known: the film "Rudin" based on the novel by Turgenev, "The Cliff" by Goncharov, "The Cherry Orchard" by Chekhov and "Profitable Place" by Ostrovsky.
Kheifets was also engaged in teaching activities: until 2012 - at the Theater Institute. Shchukin, recently - in GITIS.
In 1983, the director received the title of Honored Artist of the RSFSR, ten years later - People's Artist of Russia. In 2010 he was awarded the Order of Honor.
