In the Oryol region declared war on wild boars

The ROSSELKHOZNADZOR Office has identified wild boars and feeding grounds in five-kilometer zones around large pig breeding complexes in the Oryol and Kursk regions.

The department is concerned about this situation, since it is wild boars that are the natural reservoir of the African swine fever virus. Since the beginning of 2022, the Rosselkhoznadzor Administration has carried out 24 raids to recount the number of wild boar and find dead wild animals, 9 of them in the Orel region.

At the end of February, a helicopter flew over the controlled territory, as a result of which 7 feeding grounds, 18 individuals of wild boar and traces of their vital activity were found in Dmitrovsky, Trosnyansky and Soskovsky districts of the Oryol region, including in 5-kilometer buffer zones around large pig breeding farms. complexes.  

Information letters were sent to the Government of the Oryol region about the need to take urgent response measures.  

Wild boar are regularly hunted in the region. Thus, since the beginning of the year, 13 individuals of wild boar have been shot in areas adjacent to other regions of the Oryol region.
